  • Always use network providers and shop for prescriptions

  • Ask your doctor for generic medications

  • – coupons and comparison by store and location

  • Kroger, Walmart, Sam’s Club – have many generic drugs priced at $4 to $6 for a 30-day supply and $10 to $12 for a 90-day supply

  • Costco – anyone can use the pharmacy, you do not have to be a Costco member

  • Publix – Free common drugs and antibiotics (ex. lisinopril, metformin, amoxicillin)

Medical Care

  • Avoid the ER

    • The average in-network ER visit = $1,200

    • The average urgent care center = $16

  • Negotiate a lower payment or ask the hospital for a discount if you pay a lump sum

  • Get MRIs and CT scans at freestanding facilities, not hospitals

  • Check carrier sites to compare services
